Thank you so much everyone for your wishes and thoughts. I don't mind if it's late, just the fact that you acknowledged Maria's day is wonderful. I am feeling pretty mad at some close family members who knew the date but have chosen not to acknowledge it.
We had a cake with the kids and some Sands friends on the Sunday afternoon (didn't invite family because we knew they would upset us more). I am so grateful for friends like yourselves and Sands people who treat us more like family than our own flesh and blood do sometimes.
On Monday Angus had the day off work so after we dropped the kids at school and daycare, we had about 5 hours to ourselves. We went for a peaceful walk on Cornwallis beach and then to Huia for lunch where we were able to look out the window at the hill where Maria's ashes were scattered. Unfortunately we didn't get to climb the hill as the weather was deteriorating. But just being there, close to her was great, and having time together as a couple to remember and reflect was awesome too.
Here is a picture of the cake that Joel made especially for Maria:

What a wonderful cake! Joel did a fantastic job with it, good on him! I love the butterfly and the pink.
Sounds like you had a very special day on Monday Alana. Glad you got a good lot of time to yourselves to reflect and spend time in a special place.
Sorry your family let you down though, but it does sound like you have some very good friends to help you celebrate the important things.
Thanks for sharing the pic, well done Joel!

Thanks Tania. I also forgot to add that we ended the day by watching our one and only scan video of Maria at her 20-week scan. It is the only record we have of her alive and kicking (she died about 2 weeks after the scan) and up till now I haven't had the guts to watch it. I almost chickened out, but was glad that I did watch it. Just to see her moving and kicking around so much was very cool and reminded me that she was once very much alive.

Hi Alana,
Happy Belated Angel Birthday Maria Grace
I'm so sorry I missed sending this greeting for Maria Grace on her Angel Birthday. The thought was there, however with Neil being away, Flynn did not give me alot of me time opportunities, hence my absence from TLO recently.
It sounds like you had some special moments as a family and a couple.
I love the cake, and good on you for watching the scan DVD - that is a lovely thing to do, and I am sure Maria would have been watching over you while you watched it.
((((Big Hugs))))
Yvonne

Oh Alana, it sounds like you and DH chose a very moving and special way to remeber your precious wee angel girl.
Joel, well done on the cake you made Dude, it is awesome and I'm sure that Maria would have loved it.
