Post Smells
So I was at a friend's place after work and went to the loo, washed my hands and commented on how I like the smell of her soap. We then moved onto the gym, and everytime I cought a whiff of the soap I thought about Dreyton. So I've decided the smell is obviously one I could smell around the time he was born but I can't figure out whether I had the same soap, or the hospital did, or if I had similar body wash! Really weird! But for the last 3 hours, I've been smelling my hands! Haha. It's the first time a smell has reminded me of him and I like it!

Anyway while I'm here, thought I'd give you guys an update. At my pre-op appointment for my D and C, the doctor said I should have been on aspirin because I have anticardiolipin antibodies (??) which can affect placenta development. As I'm sure you can imagine, I was ready to hit someone, because I felt like I was getting different stories from everyone, and noone seemed to agree on any one thing. So I mentioned it to my midwife (who by the way, had never mentioned this anticardiolipin before - that I can remember anyway) and she said that she wouldn't want me taking aspirin because I lost so much blood when I had Dreyton and aspirin is a blood thinner. She told me that if I wanted to I could ask my doctor to do a full obs history and make a decision.

So I went to see my doctor a couple of weeks ago and as it has already been a couple of months since my blighted ovum, I couldn't remember the name of the anticardio-blah-blah and it took about 5 minutes for him to figure out what I was on about! Haha. Anyway he was pretty pissed that noone had sent him any blood test results that showed that I have this anti-thingie-what's-it, and he said that of course it's an issue, it causes the placenta to break away from the uterine wall!! Ahhhhh, helloooooo....that's what bloody happened to Dreyton! He was sooooooooooo not impressed! Anyway he sent me for a blood test so he can see what the deal is, and he has said that as soon as I find out I'm pregnant, I need to go to him, not a midwife, and he is going to put me through the high risk people at the hospital, as they apparently have people who specialise in this anticardiolipin business.

First of all, what the hell is up with noone communicating with me or my GP? And why, if anticardiolipin causes the placenta to come away, did noone pick it up while I was pregnant with him, or tell me afterwards that I would need special care next time? Aarrgghh!!! So...now that I think about it, I seem to vaguely remember at my specialist appointment 6 weeks after Drey was born, the specialist saying something about anticardiolipin antibodies, but he must not have said much because I don't remember what it was he said. I no that he said all my bloods were normal accept for the anticardiolipin, so why didn't he tell me what it does?

Anyway, my GP is onto it, and he is filling a record for me with the high risk team now, letting them know my history, and that I am TTC, so hopefully I'll never have the same issue, and hopefully people will blimmin tell me WTF is going on in the future!

Rant rant rant.

:)

Nat

:bighug: :bighug: :bighug: Nat, what awful miscommunication. I have never heard of anticardiolipin, but so glad your GP knows about it now.

Lovely about the soap, now you always have that lovely smell to remind you of your beautiful boy!

Wow Nat, you'd think people could do there jobs better aye? How hard is it to send copies to your GP! I was tested for anticardiolipin antibodies at my appontment at the hospital a month after I lost Ezra and that came back ok...was told to get a repeat done when i got pregnant too as i had had so much blood transfused that it could be inaccurate. Anyway i was so overwhelmed to be back on a hospital i completely forgot to ask and when i went back in the OB was like 'oh that would be a good idea actually'!! Hello? Isnt that your job, why should i have to suggest it! I never heard about the results so i assume they were normal. I also asked for asprin and he said its more likely to make me bleed so??
Im Glad your under the high risk team, you should be well looked after there and Good luck with the TTC hope it happens quickly for you.

Thats funny about the soap smell, i have the same thing. I had no soap when i was in hospital (when Ezra was still alive) so they gave me a bottle that had been left behind of this really nice bodywash to use. Anyway i looked for ages to find that smell again, but when i found it i didnt end up buying it. I have mixed feelings about it i guess, part of me still wants to buy some but i guess i'm afraid of how it could make me feel.

Hi I am sorry for the run around, I am also on asprin while ttcing and pregnancy my specialist put me on it as my lupis anticoagaluant is slow my blood is already thin but it works deeper than that so it doesnt actually thin my blood but actually thickens it up. however the specialist said that end of any pregnancy it would be stopped to prevent heavy bleeding, so maybe thats why the docs think its a good idea and that the midwifes dont know the other effects of asprin.

Went back to the doctor today and he said my results came back normal! WTF? I asked him if it is something that could happen with pregnancy and he said it's possible, and that not much is really known about what causes it. He still wants me to go to him when I fall pregnant and get a repeat done. He said we will address the situation then. Man! I just can't seem to get an answer! If there was something wrong with me at least we might be able to do something about it. At the moment it seems like life is all about luck and chance!

Hey Nat, sorry to hear your not getting clear awnsers. I remeber feeling let down when my results came back normal because i wanted to know 'Why' it happened and be able to do something to stop it hapeening again. But after some time i realised im pretty lucky my results did come back normal. Not saying that your situation is the same because you have had some abnormal results too but hopefully the normal result this time is a good thing. I know the OB and Heamotologist wouldnt test me when i was in hospital with Ezra because she said when your pregnant you cant get an accurate result.
Thinking of you

P.s I've found myself wishing for that soap i had in hospital again. I think when im feeling sad i want that smell but when im feeling alrite its too hard.

I know I am lucky Debs. I'm lucky in that I shouldn't have any reason not to end up having a perfectly healthy baby at some stage. Not everyone can say that and I feel for them with all of my heart. It's just so frustrating!

My friend who had the soap said she would buy me some for christmas (lol) but when she went to her usual supermarket they didn't have it so she asked someone and they said they aren't making it anymore!!! :( so she is trying every supermarket she can think of to see if she can get some for me haha. It's a detol one and it smells kind of like vanilla. I've been looking too but I can't find it either!
