Thank you so much everyone for your thoughts. We went out to our family land at Little Huia and had our two best friends (couples with kids) join us as well as my mum, aunty and grandparents. We climbed up a hill through the bush and read a letter we had written to Maria, and other people said a few words. Then we scattered her ashes in the bushes over the side of the hill, and had a prayer. It was really lovely to be in nature and to have our special people with us, as we never had a funeral for Maria so this was our chance to remember and celebrate her. I hadn't been sure about letting her ashes go but now I feel a real sense of peace as for me it was about making it to her due date and being able to let go and have hope for the future.
We had a shared lunch togehter afterwards, and then the rain came pouring down! It was like it had been holding off especially for us.
I missed being at the SANDS meeting but look forward to catching up next month. Hope it went well.
Alana
