Re: Queenbean's bean!!!
Hi ladies, Been home for a few nights now, Cooper is such a chilled out wee dude, loving every minute of him!! Here is my birth story... DH and I took the dog for a walk to the river at 10:30am on Monday morning and contractions started then. Very mild and about 10-15 minutes apart, I didn't think they were the start of labour, just cramps. Over the morning and early afternoon, they got stronger and more frequent, and at 4pm they were 6 minutes apart. At 9:00pm DH called the back-up midwife (my midwife is on holiday this week!) and she came around, watched me having contractions and said they were still quite far apart and I could easily talk through them so she didn't think I was anywhere near ready. However she did an internal and was surprised to find I was 4cm dilated. She said to tough it out for a couple of hours then head to hospital. While she was at our house, she got a page from one of her own ladies who had also gone into labour. So she organised yet another midwife for us, who we met at the hospital at midnight. We had a lovely room at the new delivery suite at the hospital. At this stage I was 6cm dilated and working through contractions with no pain relief. Progress started to slow from then on, I was getting really tired and tried entonox gas which was crap so stopped that. By 7am, I was 8cm and in agony! Got an epidural at 8am and oh lord the relief!!!! Doctors on ward round checked me at 8:45am, still 8cms and Cooper now posterior, waters still intact! They broke my waters and put me on a synto drip to speed things up, but this didn't seem to make much difference. Fast forward to 5pm!!! VERY TIRED, DH very grumpy too!! Finally fully dilated and midwife OK'd me to push at 5:05pm and Cooper made his way into the world, still posterior, at 5:21pm, crying straight away but quickly settled. Apgars were 9 at 0, 10 at 5. A very cruisy little boy, breastfeeding straight away. Placenta was delivered within half an hour which was a huge relief, as we had MAJOR dramas with retained placenta with Eva. We were discharged to a birthing centre at 10pm and DH and I spent a great, restful couple of days there before heading home. Cooper has been so lovely so far, currently sleeping in his cocoon next to his Mummy so she can muck around on the internet! With Mummy 4 Days Old (Daddy dressed him, can ya tell?!)
