Hi all, we are home now, came home last night at 8.30, the hospital was just doing my head in! The MW has just popped round and weighed Shawna, she has put on 340grms since last week. I am finding that so hard to believe when GG was only 325-350grms when she was born at 26 weeks.
Its been an emotional rollacoster this last week. Missing GG terribly, but so smitten with Shawna, then I feel guilty about that --- its a different set of emotions I tell ya!

We are having trouble with the whole breast feeding thing, she is too little to grab a big gob full of my huge boobs and so is really hurting my nipples! She is getting enough for herself tho, its just until she gets a little bigger I have to endure this pain. Unless I stop breastfeeding, but I'm not sure I want to yet.

I on Trademe at the mo looking for baby moniters, thats one thing I never got around to getting, was going shopping last week for xmas etc, well that didnt happen at all! We havent even got a tree up. I'm too scared to leave the house with such a wee baby at this stage so its TM and a budget xmas! Oh so tired, going for a sleep - if I can!!

Oh Tracey I am soo glad that you are both home now!!!! I am soo with you on the feelings of missing your angel girl, I have days where I look at at Jess and cant help but think of what Julia would have looked like and what she would be doing now, but then on the other hand I think that if it wasnt for Julia coming so briefly into our lives we wouldnt have Jessica with us now.

On the nipple front, have you thought of getting some nipple shields? I got some yesterday as TMI I have a wicked crack on my right nipple and it hurts like buggery whenever Jess latches, so got these sheilds to use for a few days until it heals...just an idea...

Hope that you get some rest and get DH to go and do the xmas shopping for you, you might be surpised how he goes...

I have to say that we are now on Formula, I had been trying the sheilds before I was out of hospital, on Wednesday night I broke down and couldnt feed her from the left side, poor wee mite had sucked the left one dry by the time the midwife arrived on Thursday, we tried to express from the left but it was a no go, I was sitting there in tears with the pain, the decision to go onto formula left me feeling like a failure for most of the day, but seeing her guzzle it down has left me feeling a bit better, she is enjoying it and is more relaxed and feeding times.

Oh Tracey, Sweetie, dont feel guilty for putting Shawna onto formula, you have only done what is best for her. With DS I was going to formula feed him at two weeks old, but didnt in the end, but the thing is is that it is okay to do so, you are only looking out for your child's welfare. And the fact that she is now a much happier camper speaks for its self.

I agree with Carley - you have got to do whats best for you and Shawna, and if shes happy then you are going to be happy It sounds like you did the best you could, but if its not working, the little one needs to eat, so formula is good

She is just gorgeous Tracey - you must be soo proud of her.

ok since I saw her yesterday...I am now offically in love with her too! Think you gonna need to post more pictures fast LOL.
And was meaning to ask...what it the velcro sticky circle on her temple for in NICU? I don't remember that as part of Cam's equipment when we were in there Just interested and being a nosey cow

lol the velcro dot was to hold her sunnys on because she needed a trip to the tanning salon for jaundice.
I will start her birth story in word and cut and paste to here, my mind is all over the show at the moment, so tired!!

OMG thats it lol.
When Cam had thoe eye patch on they had a wee velco strip that went around his head....pleased to see after a few years they found a better way to hold them on LOL
