Hi Claire
Just wondering how you are? I've been thinking of you. We go for my 12 week scan tomorrow and I've been wondering whether you've had any scans yet and what kind of care you are getting from the medical people. I hope it's good care!

Hi Alana

Good luck for your scan today! Claire has been on the EBB recently but I can't really remember if she's said anything about scans etc yet.

I didn't have a 12 week scan, but got one at 8 weeks that was enough to ease some anxiety. Also managed to get a really strong heart beat at my MW visit at 11 weeks. Still a bit unsure about all this though, kind of just waiting for it to be real, not sure when that'll happen! Can't really bring myself to buy anything for the baby yet, though I've been looking. Might wait until after Christmas maybe.

And you?

Lizzie

Hi Alana

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I am very touched especially when you are having your 12 week scan today and must be anxious.

I have now found myself a good midwife (after a disappointment with my first choice as she is away next August) and I am having a scan on Friday at about 6.5 weeks. I really wanted some reassurance before Christmas although I know all too well that things can change at anytime. Trying to stay positive though and feel like things are different this time around. I am also feeling really unwell which most people say is a great sign but I am finding it hard with two pre-schoolers at home.

Can't wait to hear how your 12 week scan went. I have all my crossable crossed for you but I am sure that everything will be fine.

Oh and BTW I noticed that you posted on the July MTB board. My sister Katherine (Hoshi) is part of that board and she's great as are many of the ladies there. Several of them including Katherine have also suffered losses so understand the love and support you need when venturing into a subsequent pg.

Thanks again for thinking of me.

Claire :)

Hi girls
The scan today went really well and was very reassuring. Baby has everything that s/he should have and my risk of downs syndrome is very low which is a relief. It was amazing to see baby moving around so much. I'd already had a scan at 5 1/2 weeks which was too early to see anything much, and then had a brief one at 9 weeks when I saw the specialist, that was really good to confirm that there was definitely a heartbeat. My midwife was also able to pick up the heartbeat with her doppler at 10 weeks which was a nice surprise.

It's definitely reassuring to be having these extra scans because with Maria, I didn't have anything till 20 weeks and we may have picked up that something was wrong if I'd had an earlier scan. At 20 weeks we found that she was smaller than she should have been. With this baby it's evident that growth and development is happening as it should and that is so reassuring to me.

I know what you mean Lizzie about it being a bit unreal. I have trouble imagining this baby surviving past 24 weeks (even though I already have a healthy child - he is almost 3 so it feels like a long time ago since I had him). I am just hoping to grow big and fat this time round so that it really is real. Maria was so small that you couldn't tell I was even pregnant so physically it felt like I never really was.

Anyway enough rambling for now. It's great to have you guys to talk to! I have only just started telling people about this pregnancy and already I am getting the kind of responses that indicate that people think this will erase everything that happened before. Thank you for understanding!

Alana

P.S. Yes I noticed that quite a few people on the July MTB board had losses, so hopefully there will be some kindred spirits there too.

Thats great news Alana, that all parameters are looking good for your developing baby.

I will have a specialist this time too (once i am pg) to feel we can have a different outcome. Is your specialist understanding?

Hi to Deanie too and wohooo!!!! for passing the six week mark. Also yay for feeling really sick (I never thought I'd say that!)

Best wishes to all of you who are pg after loss.

Yes Manda, all the best for your scan.
Where do you go to get 4D scans and are they expensive?
