Post Rant re Census
Hi all,
I don't know if I'm overreacting here but, I was watching the Breakfast show thismorning with tht Paul guy (don't know his last name) and Kay Gregory. Well, Paul commented on the fact that there are only 2 questions on the census that have the 'object to answering' option. His question was that why would you need either of those? Firstly, are people embarressed by their religion and as far as question 25 he implied that perhaps it was there to protect a women who has had 2 children to her husband but perpaps has children her husband isn't aware of and it's a good 'out'. He was quite flippant about it and thought it was quite amusing. I know Paul is a bit like this and often says things to get a rise out of people and I don't usually bite, but I guess this time it got to me. I got on the computor and sent an e-mail to 'enlighten' him as to why some may chose this option. Just waiting to see if they chose to read my e-mail

Ringing up talkback might be another good option as I am sure they will be discussing the census too!

Well I ticked the 'Object to question' box. What I wonder is why they asked how many babies we have had? Surely its to get an idea of maternity services used per person? In that case whether or not the baby lived is of no consequence?? you would think.

I can't see the point in the question at all - hospitals have records of how many births there are each year, why can't they just use those statistics?

That really annoyed me too!
I did answer it but it wanted to know how many live births.
What about Noah my not live birth! It made me feel like he was just nothing and not worth being counted.
Youd think they would want to know how many lost babies there are a year.
I guess its still one of those things no one wants to know :(

I filled in the census online so could not put an extra box but I could not say zero live births because that was dishonoring Amelie. So I put 'one' and if they ask me in the future what happened to my live baby i will let them know!
I mean she was alive for 40 weeks plus 11 days and died on the day she was born so she counts. She is not nothing!!! (gee it made me mad!)
