Lynne - Wee Charlotte is so cute!!

Emma - Sarahs kidney was 12mm dilated in her antenatal scan - which was done the day she was born - and the one she had at a week old was worse - but not sure what the measurement was - haven't seen the report. Not sure about why we are on a waiting list - would rather pay for it than wait.

Emma,
Yeah the losec works really well for us, she was originally given liquid losec, it was ok but we still had some issues and it was actually more difficult to give to her, since she's been on the losec she's been much better, hope it works for you.

Telly - they weren't too worried about the 6mm antenatally and didn't expect to see anything on the birth scan, but the paed said even what they did see was "moderate" not severe which is good. I offered to have it done privately to get it done quicker but our paed (who we see privately) said it's best to have it done in hospital where they are used to dealing with such little babies.

Manda - that's so good to know, I'm holding out hope that it will work for Mercedes as well. We have her on the granules, I usually wait till she's screaming and then shake them in and shove a bottle in so she swallows them lol.

Ally - Olivia looks so grown up! I bet she enjoyed the Big Red Car as much as Maya did...

Telly - If it helps reassure you, I have a dodgy kidney too, probably the same problem as Sienna (and Sarah) coz it can be hereditary, and all it means is that I take 50mg of Nitrofurantoin (prophylactic antibiotic) every day. So I'm not too worried about Sienna - I think the tests will be worse than the actual problem! As long as I take my med I'm sweet as, and the only thing that happens if I go off it is lots of yucky UTI's (which is how my kidney got damaged - wasn't picked up early enough like our girls has been)

Is hard to know where the kidney problem has come from, we don't know a lot about Mike's family history (adopted) and I know my kidneys are ok. She's a wee trooper, I am sure she will be fine.

Hi everyone, we are just back from my sister's wedding in Aussie. Lovely to see everyone's pictures and hear about how all the bubbas are doing! Julia is doing just great, she and Joel were very good on our travels. She is 4 1/2 months now and somewhere between 5-6 kgs. She's not on solids yet as she suffers from eczema and I am concerned about food allergies so not wanting to rush it. She's been sleeping well at night which is great and I am feeling a bit more human now. Big brother Joel loves her to bits! He just started morning kindy which he is very excited about.
Here's a pic of the kids with their cousins at the wedding. My very talented mother made their matching outfits!

Well I got a letter from the hospital on Wednesday before I left, and Sarah has her MCU ina couple of days - doesn't sound like its going to be very nice - she's not allowed anything to drink 3-4 hours before the scan (the scans at 8.30 am) and insert the cathada (sp) up into her bladder to inject the dye and then do the ultrasound. Lets hope we get some more definate answers this time...

Telly - I hope that everything goes as well as it can at the scan, poor little Sarah, but fingers crossed everything comes back ok.

Went in this morning - i was so stressed out by the time I got to the radiology department - didn't help that I went to the one in the womans hospital and not the one in the main hospital - man it was a fair walk!

She wasn't allowed anything to drink before her u/s so she screamed all the way through the u/s because she was starving - i had to pick her up and cuddle her to try calm her down - but that didn't work.

We went into another room and waited for the MCU. They gave her some anti-biotics, and then I was allowed to feed her which was great. The putting in of the catheder wasn't great - she screamed like no tomorrow - they tried twice as the first was too big - but once it was in she was okay.

Everythings looking okay at this stage - but have to wait for the report.

Glad to hear Sarah's MCU went okay Telly.

Sienna had hers yesterday (they tried to postpone it but I threw a big hissy fit!) and she was an absolute angel. They trussed her up in this box that IMO looked like a coffin which freaked me way out, and tied her hands above her head but she didn't seem bothered. I was howling my eyes out tho, it was so horrible to see. Then they put up a plastic sheet so I couldn't see what was going on down the bottom end (I guess like when you have a c-sect) and put the catheter in. Sienna barely even stirred. I was still howling.

Anyways, the radiologist was very cagey about the results, he semi-explained them to me but wouldn't give me any definite idea what happens next. Apparently she has a dilated righ kidney, dilated ureter and an obstruction in the ureter and as well as that her bladder is refluxing to her kidney. On the report he has written "at least Grade IV". I didn't know what that meant so silly me looked up the Kidney Kids website and it says Grade IV is "Moderate dilation, loss of sharp calyceal fornices"whatever that means, and that she will probably be followed up every three months for a couple of years and if no improvement may need surgery. Now I wish I hadn't looked it up.

We're seeing the renal specialist on MOnday so I will be pushing for some answers and a definite "where to from here" plan.

Wow, that would have been freaky seeing her in a box - Sarahs legs just got held apart while they put the catheder/s in and wile they did the scan.

How brave Sienna was ((hugs))

Sorry to hear you didn't get some good results - I hope you get some answers today at the specialist - will be thinking of you.
