Oh yeah manda - that would be great - I can understand it won't be until after christmas. I need to get some cloth nappies to go with them or not? (sorry - am a bit of a dummy when it comes to this)

If you want pocket nappies you just need inserts, I can make them or they're pretty cheap to buy. I'm making Emma some covers, but I'm making them as pockets so they can be used as covers while bubs are small, when they get bigger they can be used as pockets. I'll take some pics and poast them to show you, will have to be tomorrow though as most of the nappies are in the wash. You could check out The Nappy Network http://thenappynetwork.org.nz/. Theres some info on the main page and the forum is pretty good too.

Oh wow - sounds so easy! I so eager to give it a go. Starter kits here in ChCh are subsidised by the council too I think

I must have been in the clouds not to realise there were so many fellow clothies on this board!! Could be because I don't check much on TNN these days... Oh and might have something to do with my girl being almost out of nappies!!
I'm a fitted girl myself, but slowly turning to pockets (thank you secret santa!).
I have made ONE nappy so far (on Labour Week End) and it was a fitted pocket.
I have bought a FOE Pocket DIY kit from GB but I have yet to sellotape the pattern together (I am a bit scared to do it wrong).
And for the nappy cut that Secret Santa sent me, I'm thinking elastic or lastin instead of FOE..
You guys rock!

I've just used foe on some covers (made as pockets) that I made Emma, I quite like the finish though it's quite tricky to sew. Heres a pic.
I use lastin in the legs of mine and braided elastic in the back.
Heres my stash of nappies I have made (except one in the wash), I also have others that have been made for me plus some AOIs bought for me by my Mummy
Telly, here's how the pocket works in case you haven't had a chance to have a look yet (lots of pics). This could be potentilly opening up my pocket flaws to all those experts, please go easy on me .
Open insert Fold one third Then one third again
Showing pocket opening Slide insert into pocket opening Insert in pocket
Put on baby as you would a sposie, snap closed. Just like that.

Ooooh Manda - pics of my covers! They look so cool! Thank you so much! Pity the babies that are going to go in them are in their cots screaming the house down lol!
My SS sent my girls some cute as pocket nappies too, the first time I have ever used pockets, I stuffed them with just a plain cloth square folded up and used one of the PUL covers over the top and they worked beautifully. I could sooooo be converted to pockets!

I did some reading up last night and looking at all the pocket nappies and things - and now I am really eager to give them a go and wanted to go out today and buy some! I think I can wait though for next year though

Just spent way too much $$$ on 4 Happy Heiny pockets for the twins, some cloth swim nappies and some cloth training pants for Maya to wear at night - will save me plenty on Drynites tho, those things are blimmin expensive!

You put a PUL cover over a pocket nappy?

Oh OK.
I've been using fitted nappies and I thought all pocket nappies had a waterproof outer.
Mind you, I did sew a fitted pocket (and I love it!!)...
Had to use a pocket for Éloïse tonight because 2 of my large covers are trying to dry on the line and the 3rd one is in the bucket...

I am still working on sewing my first lot of pocket nappies so can't show you my finished product yet - but wondered if anyone has any ideas about hiw to make swimming nappies? (that's if the weather ever gets warm enough to take baby swimming - LOL!)

Gorgeous girls Emma!
I must say, you have far too much free time with 2 babies at home! I can barely get a shower!

I finished my first nappy!
Well I finished my first pocket. I am not the world's neatest sewer and it too a long time to work out what I was doing but hopefully the next few will be quicker to make. Here's a pic. The jury is still out on what I think of them functionally but I must admit that it looks cute!

Too cute Maria! We have 8 pockets for the twins (2 yellow and 3 lime Happy Heiny's, two rose pink that Manda made and the two that my SS sent) plus I also have three pocket trainers for Maya at night coz she is still a big night wetter.
With teh twins I use the pockets as covers over flats with pins during the day, then as pockets at night as they leave their bottom dryer when they are in them longer.
